Harry potter and the order... er kanskje den mest informative boka i serien. Her nedenfor kommer en bokrapport om boka på engelsk (!)Fordi det var liksom det som var pointet med å lese ei bra bok i engelsk timen =P
Harry Potter –and the order of the phoenix
Author
Name: Joanna Kathleen "Jo" Rowling
born: 31. July 1965
Family: got 2 daughters and one son:
Jessica, born 1994, David, born 2003 and Mackenzie, born 2005.
Rowling was a poor, single-mom when she first started to write the Harry Potter- series (and she actually wrote her first notes in a café in London!), and in 1997 she published the first book, Harry Potter and the philosophers stone. It did not become a bestseller, but she didn’t give up. So in 1998 the second book was released, Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets and one year later, Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban showed its face. It was about that time they decided to make the books into films. And what a success! Today it is made films about book number 1, 2, 3 and 4, and the other ones are coming up. She hasn’t written the last book or the end yet, but I know that the title has the word “pyramid” in it, so, we’re waiting in excitement=D
Harry Potter was a normal boy until he discovered that he was a wizard. He also found out that another wizard, Lord Voldemort, killed his parents, who he thought died in a car-accident when he was a baby. Voldemort tried to kill Harry too, but it failed and he became the boy who lived. Since he doesn’t have any parents, he is living with his aunt and uncle who are muggles (or non magical humans) and they don’t want to have anything to do with “his” world. They are not nice to him at all, he lives under the stairs and wears his (fat) cousin Dudley’s clothes. Harry is just glad that he belongs to another world and another school. Hogwarts is now his second home and he makes a lot of new friends. He experienced a lot of exiting things during his first four years and now he’s starting in the fifth grade.
The story begins with Harry who’s wandering about Little Whinging arguing with his cousin Dudley, when he is attacked by dementors (!). Harry manages to drive them of, although Dudley is hurt. A neighbour, Arabella Figg, comes to help, and she tells Harry that she’s a part of the headmasters, Dumbledores, plan to keep an eye on Harry.
One night when his aunt, uncle and cousin are out, several members of the Order of the Phoenix come to escort Harry to their headquarters at the Blaack family home, 12 Grimmauld Place. Ron and his family, Hermione (he’s best friends) and Harry’s godfather, Sirius Blaack, are all there.
Harry is upset because, on Dumbledore's orders, no one has been telling him what has been happening in the wizard world all summer. It first now they tell him that the Minister Of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, refuses to believe that Voldemort has returned, and has been using “The Daily Prophet” to publish articles witch are putting Harry and Dumbledore in a bad light.
When the friends return to Hogwarts, no Hagrid is standing on the platform to welcome the first year students. There is also another change in school, Dolores Umbridge has been appointed by the ministry to become the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. It becomes clear that she is trying to take control of the school, and refuses to teach her classes anything useful to fight Voldemort. She is appointed High Inquisitor and starts to treat staff and students alike.
The one thing Harry likes about the school (except that all his friends are there) is quidditch (a very popular sport for wizards), he is the seeker and Ron is made the new keeper. The season starts well, but then Umbridge bans Harry, Fred and George (Ron’s brothers) from the team, because they punched Draco Malfoy. Hagrid returns, revealing he was sent on a secret mission by Dumbledore to seek aid from the giants. Both he and Professor Sibyll Trelawney are under heavy pressure by Umbridge, as she views both of them as incompetent. Umbridge sacks Professor Trelawney, but Dumbledore manages to replace her with his own appointment, Firenze (a centaur), before she can use her authority to impose another teacher.
Harry has had a number of strange dreams this year, mostly about running down a hallway and attempting to open a door in the Ministry of Magic's Department of Mysteries. In one of these nightmares, Harry dreams that he is a snake attacking Ron's father, Arthur Weasley, in the Ministry. When he wakes up, Harry raises the alarm, believing his dream to have been a vision, and they are sending some people to look, just in case. They discovered him on the exact place Harry saw in his dream with poisonous snakebites all over his body, but he’s still alive. Harry begins to wonder if he is being possessed by Voldemort, and Dumbledore asks Severus Snape (a teacher that Harry strongly dislike) to give Harry lessons in the art of Occlumency, the ability to block one's mind from another.
Hermione contacts the journalist Rita Skeeter, and asks her to write an article about Voldemorts return in Harry’s point of view. Luna Lovegood’s (a weird girl at Hogwarts) father runs “The Quibbler”, and he agrees to print the article. Umbridge is furious when it appears. She bans the magazine, but the story spreads rapidly through the school, and now it is so many more that believes Harry.
Hermione convinces Harry that as Umbridge refuses to teach her subject, Harry must teach the students himself. They form the D.A., Defence Association, and later this becomes Dumbledore's Army. Umbridge eventually discovers a meeting of the D.A, and catches Harry. Dumbledore pretends that it was he who organised the meetings (but he really didn’t know anything about it) and is dismissed by Umbridge, who appoints herself as new headmaster.
The Weasley twins use their talent for practical jokes to cause trouble for the new headmistress, while all of the teachers pointedly do nothing to help her (they doesn’t like her either). The twins set off one last prank as they leave Hogwards for good; they’re leaving a magical swamp inside the school. Harry has another dream in which he sees Sirius captured in the Department of Mysteries, and being tortured. He makes a desperate attempt to contact Sirius via the fireplace in Umbridge's office, but the Blaack family's house-elf, Kreacher, tricks Harry into believing Sirius has vanished. Umbridge catches Harry, but Hermione (she and the rest of Harry’s friends are standing outside the office on guard) fools Umbridge into believing that they have been hiding something in the woods. They follow her into the woods where they meet the centaurs, Umbridge foolishly insults them, and the centaurs take her away. When Harry and Hermoine gets out of the forest, they meet Ginny, Ron, Neville and Luna (They are all members of the D.A.), in the confusion which follows Harry and his friends manage to find the school thestrals, on which they fly to London and to the Ministry of Magic.
Harry and company arrive in the Department of Mysteries which Harry saw in his dream, but find it occupied by a group of Death Eaters. The dream was not real, and had been a trap. Voldemort is trying to steal a prophecy (As goes like this: “He with the power to destroy the Dark Lord is on his way… They who have met the Dark Lord three times, shall give birth to him when the seventh month dies…The Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will own powers that the Dark Lord don’t know about…one have to die by the hand of the other, as long they both live, non of them can live…”) from the ministry, and needs Harry to be there to get it. A great fight begins between the students and the Death Eaters. Most of the students are injured, but, as they near defeat, five of the adult wizards from the Order of the Phoenix appear to help them. During the ensuing battle, the prophecy is broken (and now, also lost) and, tragically, Sirius is struck by a curse from his cousin, the Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange, and dies. Dumbledore shows up and captures the most of the Death Eaters, but Bellatrix escapes.
Harry blindly chases after Bellatrix and catches up with her in the main atrium of the Ministry of Magic, where they fight. Lord Voldemort himself appears inside the atrium and duels with Dumbledore. Alerted Ministry of Magic employees arrive in time to see Voldemort for themselves before he disappears with Bellatrix. Cornelius Fudge finally accepts that Voldemort has returned.
Harry Potter – the person the whole book is about. He is kind and nice to his friends, even if he’s angry with them, but, of course, he looses his temper once in a while. He is often angry in this book, he doesn’t understand why people ignores him and why they won’t talk too him. He feels misunderstood and he doesn’t understand other people, that’s not a good combination and it’s only making things worse.
Ron Weasley - One of Harry’s best friends. A shy, nervous boy, Ron is a brave young wizard. He comes from a pureblood wizarding family. He’s not so clever (he asks Hermoine everything) and he doesn’t have self-confidence, but he’s a good friend and supports Harry in everything. His twin brothers, Fred and George, and his younger sister, Ginny, also attend Hogwarts.
Hermione Granger - One of Harry’s best friends. Very intelligent and very hard working, Hermione is always reminding Harry and Ron to study (sometimes she writes their essays). She is extremely brave and at the top of her class at Hogwarts, some think of her as a nerd. I think she’s in love with Ron, they are often arguing and the both of them get very upset after they’ve had a fight.
Voldemort spreads frightening wherever his name is mentioned, he wants power and control over the wizarding world and thinks of Harry as his worst enemy. That’s because of the prophecy (as you can read a section from in the summary), he’s afraid of Harry, because he’s the boy who lived and it was Harry that “defeated” him when he was just a baby. Voldemort lost his power and Harry only got a scar from the fight.
The story continues over Harry’s fifth school year and the story starts in Privet Drive 4, Little Whinging, when Harry is walking around and argues with his cousin. Later some members of the order of the phoenix took him to Grimmaulds Place number 12 (in London), where his Godfather lives. And then he finally gets back at Hogwarts. After a while, he and some other students are riding some thestrals back to London to the ministry of magic to save Sirius.
Since this is a book about Harry Potter, it is naturally to write it in his point of view, and so it is. We only get to know his thoughts and feelings, never anybody else’s (maybe except Lord Voldemorts, because Harry sees things in his point of view in some of his dreams). It’s also an “all-knowing” view, because sometimes the readers knows something that Harry haven’t found out yet. But we mainly see things from his spot.
The theme in this book is the fight against evil, Harry, his friends, Dumbledore and the order of the phoenix are the good side and Voldemort with his deatheaters are the evil part of this story. Since “Harry Potter” is books and not a book and since this (The order of the phoenix) is the fifth of seven, I can’t reveal the end of the series. We don’t know how it all ends, but in this book, the good side wins, because they stopped Voldemort, so he didn’t hear the whole prophecy. You have probably asked yourself why it is so important that Voldemort doesn’t hear the whole prophecy? That’s because the only thing he heard, was: He with the power to destroy the Dark Lord is on his way…They who have met the Dark Lord three times shall give birth to him when the seventh month dies… That’s why he came to their house and tried to kill Harry, but instead, he marked Harry and made him his equal. He fulfilled the prophecy. And now it is important to keep the rest of it a secret, so Voldemort doesn’t fulfil the rest of it too.
Some other themes could be, never give up, support your friends and don’t judge people to soon. (Harry thought Luna was a maniac, but she turned out to be really nice and helpful.)
I think this Harry Potter book is one of the most boring one, because it is so much talking and explanations going on. It is also a very long book (about 800 pages), if you don’t like to read much, so stay away from this book and series. The order is also a fantastic book, Rowling knows how to capture the reader. This book is relevant to read because of all the explanations, if you have read the 4. book, skipped the 5. and read the 6. it is a lot of holes in the story.
